Through the Mail-Order Dramaturgy Program, She Said Yes! Theatre Company has been pairing playwrights with dramaturgs, long-distance, for seven years. This year, the program takes a truly international turn, seeing our NL dramaturgs connected with playwrights from Canada, the US and Tanzania.

“This year we had nearly sixty submissions, and only ten of those were from Canada.”, says Artistic Director, Sara Tilley. “The program is able to connect people all over the world in a collaborative way, without them having to travel anywhere. The fact that this is a feminist company interested in developing work with women at heart has also attracted many playwrights to the program.”

This year’s pairings are:

Playwright  Klara Wojtkowska from Tanzania (MEAT) with dramaturg Sara Tilley

Playwright Alexis von Konigslow from Ontario (The Exclusion Zone) with dramturg Lois Brown

Playwright Sharon Goldner from the US (Frank Talk) with dramaturg Lois Brown

Each pair of playwrights and dramaturgs will work independently, creating their own work schedule to take them through two further drafts of the work in 2014. Each pair also decides whether or not to include Skype meetings in addition to email feedback on the work. Honorariums for playwrights and dramaturgs are made possible by support from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and the City of St. John’s Arts Jury.
